Dairy Sheep Breeder Directory

I am currently putting together a Dairy Sheep Breeder Directory in order to make it easier for aspiring dairy shepherds to find quality sheep for milking. If you are a dairy sheep breeder or know of someone and you'd like to have your business listed here, then send your info to me at milkingsheep1@gmail.com . In your message please include the information listed below.

  • Your Name, Farm Name or Both

  • Full address or at least city with zipcode

  • Breeds of sheep you breed and sell

  • Whether they are dairy or non-dairy breeds

  • Time of year you have sheep/lambs for sale

I will list breeders from any country here but I my primary goal is to build a comprehensive directory for breeders in the US because of the difficulty in finding dairy sheep here.

I have two separate flocks of dairy sheep,  my original three ewes, 4 of their original ewes lambs as I bought them bred, and a 3 year old East Friesian Ram. My older flock that are about 57%EF/ the rest is Katahdin/ St Croix crossed for parasite resistance. My younger flock of 6 ewes which are the babies of the of the original 7 ewes and the East Friesian Ram (78% EF). I also have a white East Friesian cross ram that they were bred to that goes with the flock. My younger flock of black and white 2 year oldEast Friesian crosses(78% EF. 22 % Katahdin/St Croix crosses)ewes with my white 78%EF cross bred ram for sale. Both flocks are for sale for  $1500 each. Both flocks have both hair and wool sheep in them. I am really interested in placing them as flocks but will consider other options. The flocks will be going to the first people who can get here to pick them up. They are in milk and need to be milked twice a day for optimum production. As well, I have 20 plus hair and wool lambs from 4 weeks to 3 weeks old  that available for sale. Most of them are still on the ewes.

We raise a lovely flock of dairy sheep, primarily East Friesian with some Lacunae mixed in.  Our foundation ram had genetics from high- volume working dairies and Spooner Research Station.  He had the clean underside and "rat tail". We will have lambs from January to March 2015.  We are a boutique operation with a small number of well cared for sheep.  Our heard is tested for CL, OPP, and Johne's.  We also practice rotational grazing and excellent health management.  Our last fecal float showed a 0 worm count.  We might be the right breeder for someone interested in health, and balanced sustainable milk production.

I have a small flock of hand raised dairy sheep.  My flock is East Frisian crossed with Lacaune.  Our sheep and friendly and handled a lot to create a flock that is easy to milk and fun to be around.  We milk for 150 days from April to September.  My flock has grown larger enough that we have 30 ewes and ewe lambs for sale and about 8 rams.  All sheep are available for sale now. If anyone is interested they can send me an email and I will send them the list.  Our sheep are best for small homestead dairies that want a friendly flock.  Also the wool is very good, we spin, weave and felt our wool. If you have any questions please call or email.

We have a very small flock of hand milked EFs. All milking ewes are tested for OPP/CAE, CL, Brucellosis and Johnes. Because we are not a commercial operation, we can focus on nice fleeces as well as high milk production. We want healthy and sustainable levels of milking in our ewes. We strive for a robust line of EFs that have an easy temperament, have easy lambing and are easy keepers for small farms.

We run a small grass-based dairy with genetics largely from the Wisconsin sheep dairy (River Ridge Farm and Spooner Station). Thus our sheep are various % of Lacaune and East Friesian with probably also a bit of Dorper and maybe Dorset.

Breeding and selling two lines of registered Icelandic Sheep - one milking line and one wool line.

All of our sheep are first selected for parasite tolerance or resistance and then for one of two qualities - milkiness and milking temperament, or high quality wool production. Those that are currently in my milking program are a combination of my selection over 8 years and breeding from other Icelandic dairy breeders.

Icelandics are seasonal breeders, and most (though not all) Icelandic ewes will dry off as soon as their lambs are taken from them. I milk from April to August and keep the lambs with their dams.

Lambs are available for sale starting in August. Reservations can be made starting in June.

You can find Hestholl Icelandics on Facebook.
